Born in 1991 in Vienna, Filip Lav is an artist who lives and works between London and Vienna. His artistic practice weaves together evocative elements of 19th-century Romanticism with the fragmented geometry of modernist abstraction.
Lav explores the boundary between the spirituality of forgotten myths and the secularization of modernity, intertwining symbols and writings from diverse traditions, both ancient and contemporary. His visual language thus becomes a means to probe the profound connection between cultures, beliefs, and worldviews, addressing the transition from the religious sphere to scientific thought.Through his fragmented compositions, Lav enriches the dialogue between layered mythological figures and abstract geometries, reflecting on the intersection between belief and impossibility.
Filip Lav earned a BFA from the Ruskin School of Fine Art at the University of Oxford in 2012 and an MFA from Columbia University, NY, in 2016. Recent exhibitions include Gathering Gallery, London (2024); Hew Hood Gallery, London (2024); The Bomb Factory, London (2024).
