Kin Ting Li (b. 1991) is an artist whose painting practice investigates the interconnectedness of natural, architectural, and symbolic systems. Through the depiction of hybrid forms, morphing shapes, and shifting perspectives, Li explores how visual languages can encapsulate and redefine subject matter. His work often draws on the logics of science fiction, where multiple realities coexist, and reasoning gives way to intuition and transformation. Materiality plays a central role in Li’s process. He frequently works on rough, textured surfaces, allowing friction between paint and support to unify material and image.
His creative process begins with observation and abstraction, extracting recognizable forms and extending them through associative metamorphosis: a tooth becomes a leg, a cocoon transforms into a totem. Each work embodies its own rhythm and frequency, forming part of a larger system of visual relations that mirrors the perpetual motion of the natural and imagined worlds.
